So have you had a chance to check out the new Festool hose? For some time we've been using Velcro to hold our Festool cords close and tidy to the hose. But this new hose is the way to go. Click here to get the details at Festool Products.com

a  Happy  Woodworker  down  under

Hello Steve,

A little fan mail from Down Under.

Your Multifunction Slab idea has changed my whole approach to my work and my new little company here on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia.

Simple as that.  I bought your drawings on-line and found a CNC facility (that was the only tricky part, we’re in the bush down here) and the rest turned out precisely the way you said it would.

I’m delighted.  For the first time I can stroll onto a customer’s property, set up my MFS in a couple of minutes and I’m ready to take on a most amazing range of high accuracy carpentry I could only do on my home work bench...and even then not nearly as quickly.  Just being able to walk right around the work without having to re-clamp, change lighting and wriggle the timber about, is fantastic.

I wanted some really very stable and solid horses to mount the Slab into and found the drawings for a great, extreme stability horse called the “Shop Dog”.  It’s under that name in any Google search.  They team up with the MFS like a dream.  I used a strip of non slip thin foam mesh material on the top of each Dog support timber and it feels like its bolted together. No exaggeration.

The Dogs are held together with a $4.00 pair of webbing winches.  Install them in 20 seconds.

I had my CNC fellow wide cut the bottom of each hole to allow the use of the Festool clamps. I bought a set of Parf bench dogs by Veritas (Lee Valley) designed for the Festool table and now run a Festool HKC55 track, compound mitre saw with the facility.

I’m a carpenter reborn.  And you get the credit!

I’ve attached some pictures of the MFS and the Shop Dogs if you doubt me...

Most sincere thanks to you for your ideas and caring support.

Is precision critical in your wood working?

When installing kitchen cabinets, book cases or hanging doors and windows Speed Shims by Peel-A-Shim Inc. beats the pants off wedge style wood shims! If you're not familiar with these little guys then check out this video. I've been shimming cabinets, windows & doors with these to achieve plumb, level and square for a few years now - can't say enough good things about them and thought I should share this very useful and simple wood-working tool.

Eric  CHartier  of  mariner  contracting

Another great example of our customers putting their MFSlab to use. Eric says "I'm considering selling my Festool MFT as I rarely drag it out anymore". I've been hearing similar sentiments from several of my clients who have fallen in love with their new MFSlab. As you can see in the images below Eric has also done a great job of modifying the tool shelf to nest nicely onto both sawhorses he already owned as well as his MFT. This can easily be done by either modifying the drawing in a CAD program (your CNC shop should be able to do this for you) or by simply cutting the shelf after it's produced. I also like how Eric has routed his screw troughs along the opposite edge of the table top allowing for much larger troughs.

The MFSlab has just been featured in the Tools of the Trade news letter by David Frane. If you're not familiar with this free weekly news letter about everything tools you'll really want to check it out. David features many new products from all the major tool manufactures as well as many tool modifications from wood workers like myself. He even includes factory tours now and again, a personal favorite. I find there's always lots of interesting features in his email.

Grant dropped us a few photos and his feedback about how much he's enjoying his MFS.  Thanks Grant

You have to check out Grants bottle opener/coaster, beautiful and functional.

The Multi Function Slab has been a game changer for my furniture business. I operate out of a small shop and space is of the utmost importance. I have all the clamping and track saw possibilities I could ever need in this 3' x 5' work bench. It's not too often you can combine a light and easily transportable work bench with so many different functions. I can do precise and quality work in a fraction of the time. To top it all off I was able to add this to my shop without hurting my wallet much at all and it's already paid dividends in how efficient and accurate my furniture process is. I tell every woodworker I know how affordable and essential this work bench  can be to them in their shop too.
